Fumigar Plagas Sevilla is a local pest control company based in Sanlúcar la Mayor, just west of Seville. We have been treating homes and businesses across the province for years, and we know the pests of this area well: the German and American cockroaches that come up through old drains, the rats of the olive groves and the river banks, the subterranean termites of the Aljarafe soils and, lately, the oriental hornet. If you live in Seville or the Aljarafe and you need pest control near you, we can usually visit the same day.

Pest control for expats, landlords and holiday rentals
Many of our customers in the Aljarafe are families who have moved from abroad, owners who let their flat or villa, and holiday rental hosts. A pest problem is stressful when you are new to the country or managing a property from a distance, so we keep things simple.
We offer one contact by WhatsApp, a clear written quote and photos of the work if you are not at home. For rentals we can coordinate access with your property manager or cleaner.

Common pests in Seville through the year
Seville’s hot, long summers make pest activity higher than in most of Europe. American cockroaches peak from May to September, especially at night near drains and manholes. Mosquitoes — including the tiger mosquito, which bites during the day — are active from April to October. Termites swarm in spring, often after the first warm rain.
Rats and mice move closer to homes in autumn and winter, when the countryside cools down. Wasps and hornets build their largest nests at the end of summer. Acting at the start of each season is always easier and cheaper than waiting.
A quick guide to the most common pests in Seville homes
Cockroaches
There are two you will meet in Seville. The German cockroach is small (1.5 cm), light brown and lives indoors, behind fridges, dishwashers and kitchen units; it breeds very fast and is the usual problem in flats and restaurants. The American cockroach is large (up to 4 cm), reddish brown and comes up from drains, manholes and patio sinks on warm nights. Seeing one German cockroach in daylight usually means there are many more hidden. Sprays from the supermarket tend to scatter them; professional gel bait placed in the right spots eliminates the colony.
Rats and mice
Droppings, gnawed cables or food packaging, scratching noises in the ceiling at night and greasy marks along walls are the classic signs. Brown rats move through sewers and gardens; black rats climb trees, hedges and roofs; mice get into kitchens and storerooms through gaps of barely a centimetre. Effective pest control combines closed bait stations — safe for children and pets — with sealing the entry points, otherwise new rodents keep arriving.
Bed bugs
Bites in lines or clusters when you wake up, small black dots on the mattress seams and tiny blood stains on the sheets. Bed bugs travel in luggage and second-hand furniture, so they are common in rentals and after trips. They hide in seams, bed frames, headboards, skirting boards and sockets. Treatment needs heat (steam), a residual product and a second visit: one treatment alone rarely works because eggs survive.
Termites and woodworm
Skirting boards or door frames that sound hollow, wood that crumbles under light pressure, mud tubes on walls and swarms of winged insects in spring. Subterranean termites are widespread in the Aljarafe because of its clay soils, garden irrigation and wooden pergolas in contact with the ground. Woodworm leaves small round holes and fine sawdust. An early inspection saves a lot of money in repairs.
Wasps and oriental hornets
The oriental hornet (Vespa orientalis) is spreading quickly across Seville: it is large, reddish brown with yellow bands and stays active even in the midday heat. It nests inside cavities — shutter boxes, wall gaps, roofs — and defends the nest aggressively. Do not block the hole or spray it: they will look for another way out, sometimes into the house. Call a professional pest control service to remove the nest safely.
Mosquitoes
The tiger mosquito bites during the day and breeds in tiny amounts of water: plant saucers, buckets, gutters, drains and pool covers. Most mosquitoes that bite you were born within 100–200 metres. Emptying standing water every week makes a huge difference; where it cannot be emptied, we treat breeding sites with authorised larvicides and treat the shady vegetation where adults rest.
What makes pest control in Seville different
Seville is one of the hottest cities in Europe, and that changes how pests behave. Summer nights above 25 °C keep American cockroaches active for months, and the city’s old sewer network gives them an easy route into ground floors, patios and bars.
Many traditional houses in the historic centre and in the villages of the Aljarafe have thick walls, inner patios, wooden beams and old drains: beautiful, but full of hiding places. Newer developments bring their own issues — irrigated gardens, pools and wooden pergolas that attract termites and mosquitoes. Good pest control in Seville takes all of this into account: we look at the drains, the garden and the structure of the building, not only at the room where you saw the pest.
The climate also means timing matters. Treating termites before the spring swarm, removing hornet nests early in the summer before colonies grow, and dealing with rodents before the first autumn rains are all far easier than reacting at the peak of the season.
If you are not sure whether something needs professional pest control in Seville, send us a photo by WhatsApp and we will tell you honestly.
DIY or professional pest control?
For a single insect or a small ant trail, good cleaning and sealing food may be enough. But some pests almost never go away on their own: German cockroaches, bed bugs, rats, termites and hornet nests. Supermarket products often make things worse — they scatter cockroaches and bed bugs into other rooms and teach rodents to avoid baits.
Professional pest control in Seville is not just about stronger products: it is about finding the source, choosing the right method for each pest and following up until the problem is solved.
How to prepare for the visit
- Take photos of what you have seen: the insect or rodent, droppings or damage.
- Note where and when it appears, and since when.
- Tell us if there are children, elderly people, pregnant women or pets at home.
- Let us know which products, if any, you have already used.
- Make sure we can access the patio, garage, storeroom, manholes or attic — that is often where the source is.
With this information our technician arrives prepared and the treatment starts well from day one.
Pest control for businesses in Seville
Restaurants, bars, hotels, shops, offices and warehouses in Spain must have a pest control plan with documented visits. We set up a regular plan, visit outside opening hours, keep a numbered map of control points and hand over the reports and certificates that health inspectors ask for. If you run a holiday rental, a certificate after a treatment can also be useful between one guest and the next.
Pest control by area: what we usually find
Seville city
In the historic centre — Santa Cruz, Alfalfa, Triana, Macarena — old buildings share walls, drains and inner patios, so cockroaches and rodents move easily from one property to the next. In apartment blocks, German cockroaches travel through shared pipes and electrical risers. Here pest control works best when the flat and the common areas are treated together, and we can propose that to your community of owners.
The Aljarafe
Towns such as Mairena, Tomares, Bormujos, Espartinas, Gines and Valencina are full of villas and townhouses with gardens, pools and irrigation. That means tiger mosquitoes in summer, ants in patios, termites attracted by damp soil and wooden pergolas, and rats moving along hedges and garden slopes. Pest control in the Aljarafe always includes the outside: the garden, the pool plant room, the drains and any wood touching the ground.
The countryside and villages
Farmhouses, cortijos and village homes with yards, stables, chicken coops or grain stores face field rodents in autumn, bird mites from pigeons and hens, and stored-product pests in pantries and warehouses. We set up perimeter bait stations, treat the source and leave a simple plan for the season.
A seasonal checklist for your home in Seville
- Spring (March–May): check skirting boards and door frames for termite damage, clear gutters and empty anything that collects water before mosquito season starts.
- Summer (June–September): keep drain covers and patio sinks closed at night, empty plant saucers weekly and look out for hornets flying in and out of shutter boxes or wall gaps.
- Autumn (October–November): seal gaps around doors, pipes and garage entrances before rodents look for shelter, and store firewood away from the house walls.
- Winter (December–February): ventilate bedrooms to keep dust mites down, check attics and storerooms for droppings, and plan any wood treatment before spring.
If you notice something during any of these checks, a quick photo by WhatsApp is enough for us to tell you whether you need pest control in Seville or whether a simple fix will do.
What happens after the treatment
We do not just treat and leave. You receive written instructions on safety times, cleaning and what to avoid, and we tell you when we will come back if the pest needs a follow-up — for example, two weeks after a bed bug treatment or a few weeks after setting rodent bait stations. If the problem returns within the agreed period, call us and we review it. For businesses and rentals we send the certificate by email so you always have it to hand.

How much does pest control in Seville cost?
Every home is different, so we do not use a fixed price list. After a free, no-obligation inspection we give you a closed quote in writing: the price we quote is the price you pay.
Is pest control in Seville safe for children and pets?

Can you treat bed bugs in a holiday rental or Airbnb?
Yes. We work discreetly, in unmarked vehicles and at times that do not affect your bookings, and we issue a treatment certificate you can keep for your records or show to guests.
